BBC, New York Times, ESPN and many other global media cited the news of AFP and reported on Saturday that, former Paris Saint-Germain women’s team France international midfielder Arminata Diallo has been formally arrested by the police on suspicion of hiring an assailant to beat former teammate Kheira Hamraoui, and she had been jailed pending trial.
According to reports, the French police have captured 4 men involved in the case a few days ago. During the interrogation process, several men have confessed that it was Diallo herself who had masterminded the attack, and the intelligence team has also successfully obtained evidence from Diallo’s taped phone that she personally ordered the attack on Hamraoui in several voice messages and call records.
A police spokesman said that the accomplices all confessed that Diallo conceded that she was jealous of Hamraoui and hoped to get more gametime opportunities, therefore she directed the outrageous attack.
In addition, a spokesman for the prosecution agent also added that the judge on duty in a local court in Paris personally asked the police to take Diallo into custody on Friday, hence Diallo is currently being held in the local prison, and the prosecutor has also notified her that she must find a team of lawyers to defend her case in court.
Earlier, Kheira Hamraoui lodged a police report that she was suddenly assaulted by several masked men with metal bars when she went out for a meal with her teammates in the evening after their training sessions last November, causing her hands and feet needed to be treated with multiple stitches.
Later, the police searched for clues and found that the suspects were driving the car given to Diallo by Paris Saint-Germain while they carried out the crime, thus they arrested Diallo immediately. However, as Diallo chose to remain silent at that time, the police and prosecutors could only acquit Diallo was at the time after failing to find any substantial evidence against her.
Arminata Diallo, 27, holds dual French and Guinean nationality and is a midfielder. Diallo joined the Paris Saint-Germain women’s team in the summer of 2016 and became a member of the French women’s senior national team the following year.
Hamraoui, 32, has dual French and Algerian nationality and is also a midfielder. Hamraoui joined the Paris Saint-Germain women’s team in 2012. With her good performance, she was already a member of the French women’s senior national team that year. After that, she also played for Lyon, Barcelona and other teams and won many Division 1 Féminine titles and one Women’s Champions League. In July 2021, Hamraoui returned to Paris Saint-Germain and has played until now.
It is worth mentioning that Hamraoui and Diallo have played together in the national team as early as 2016. After this horrific attack, Diallo was released by Paris Saint-Germain in January this year, and was expelled from the French women’s senior national team and the French Women’s Professional Footballers Association.
