Chelsea’s England defender Reece James will miss the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, multiple sources have confirmed today.
England boss Gareth Southgate called James on Tuesday night to inform him that he would be left out of England’s 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, reports Sami Mokbel, Simon James and Nizaar Kinsella. The decision came after Southgate spoke with James last week, when the player gave him an update on his recovery from a knee injury.
Sami Mokbel has learned that Reece James’ rehab is not going well so far. Players are just starting to get back to running and haven’t been training hard yet.

Southgate ultimately decided to drop Reece James as Kyle Walker and Phillips neared recovery. The England boss told James that he has no intention of letting players risk their health and careers.
Reece James was diagnosed with knee ligament damage after suffering an injury in the Champions League group stage against AC Milan three weeks ago. The player should have undergone surgery to cure the injury, but he chose conservative treatment for this World Cup.
This World Cup, England and Iran, the United States, Wales are in Group B. According to the schedule, they will have their first battle with Iran on November 21, the United States on the 26th, and finally Wales on November 30th.
